Oh, the 2nd trimester…
Overall a dream compared to the 1st. For me, most heartburn and nausea went away, I experienced boosts of energy, I started to feel the baby move and my belly popped. All motivation to stay mentally and physically strong for our growing baby boy.
Of course growing a human isn’t easy. There were still symptoms that shocked me. Like super sensitive gums and teeth and would often time bleed after brushing and flossing. Hormones and increased blood flow are the biggest culprits in tooth/gum pain in pregnancy. The increased hormones affect the way the body responds to bacteria which can lead to periodontal infection. Plus since the body is working overtime to support mom and baby, this results to increased blood flow which can cause sensitive and swollen gums to the touch. Hot and cold sensitivity is a common reaction too. Ever since I've had discomfort in my mouth, I started using Sensodyne toothpaste which has helped offer significant relief. Every remedy helps!
The 2nd tri was also when my regular clothes started to get too tight and resorted to more comfortable loose fitting clothes. I also experienced lower back pain, achy legs and constipation. Oh the joy, but overall, everything was manageable. Even with the energy boost, by the end of the day, I was still extremely tired. I was often in bed by 8 p.m. knowing that I would be up multiple times in the middle of the night to pee.
In addition to my 1st trimester musts, I added more helpful tools to the list that helped me power through pregnancy weeks 14-27. Hope all these tips and tools help. See below!

Lululemon Aligns: These have been my ride or die all of pregnancy. I sized up two seizes to accommodate the growing belly. I basically rotated four pairs over and over again. The waist line is not restricting and the material is very soft and stretchy. They’re an investment but so worth it. They have lasted two pregnancies now and also great postpartum as the body recovers from delivery.
Lululemon Align joggers: This is a variation of the legging. A little looser fit all around and everything I said about the leggings above, applies here too.
Hanes men's sweats: For an oversized super comfy feel, these did the trick. Sometimes I just wanted to be ultra comfy and basically drowning in my clothes. This was my go to sweat set anytime I didn’t want to wear clothes and get ready. I ordered a size small in the sweatpants and large in the sweatshirt.

Slippers: My feet and legs are so sensitive and the more I stand, the more they ache. We also have hard floors in our home. These slippers are non-negotiable. They offer daily comfort.
Heating pad: This is a back ache savior. It alleviates so much pain. I use it daily when I'm working and relaxing.
Wedge pillow: This pillow is great to help ease lower back pain as well. I use it while working at my desk, in the car if I have to drive a long distance, or while lying on the couch watching TV.
Gratitude journal: Practicing daily gratitude allows you to appreciate what you have in the moment rather than focusing on what you don't or are lacking.
Stretch marks cream: This stuff is amazing. I was very lucky not to experience stretch marks with pregnancy number one. I used this on my boobs, stomach, butt, and the back of my legs daily. It's so smooth, hydrating, and smells delightful.
Water jug: This 40 oz container holds me accountable to drink at least 80 ounces of water per day. Staying hydrated is so important for pregnancy and I'll never forget when my doctor told me it prevents pre-term labor.
Belly buds: Love these specialized speakers that gently adhere to your baby bump and allow you to safely play memory-shaping sound directly to the womb.

Sensodyne toothpaste: Helped ease discomfort with swollen gums and sensitive teeth. I noticed a significant difference and now swear by it. The gum bleeding has subsided and my teeth don’t ache as much. Game changer.
Tost: My go to non-alcoholic drink! TOST is crafted with natural ingredients and is low calorie. Ingredients: carbonated water, organic blue agave, white tea, white cranberry extract, natural ginger extract and natural citrus. Just 45 calories and 11 arbs for an 8 oz pour.
